He put a new focusing lever on one and reglued some of the vinyl on it. He worked on both of mine the same day he received them and placed them in the mail the next day. I just sent two Autocords out to Karl last week. Outstanding work and insanely speedy turn around. Perfect repairs were done and even things that weren't broken work much better now (specifically the focusing lever). Karl received my Autocord, repaired it that day, and had it in the mail on its way back to me the next day. Karl is still killing it! I get nervous when I send out cameras for repair and constantly check tracking. Now to find some 120 film, scrounge up some film processing equipment and relearn the Autocord Way.

He even found me a factory focus knob and original distance scale, and he sent pdf files of the owner's manual. Karl fixed the broken focus apparatus and did an all-around tuneup on my Autocord, which had been in a drawer in my house for at least 20 years. Outstanding eat communication, fair price.my original autocord works great now. Now I can actually take pictures with it instead of just fondling it! Just another happy Karl Bryan customer here. Its so smooth now and with the new leatherette he installed, it looks like new! He quoted all in advance and had it on its way back to me within 2 days of receiving it. After reading about him here, I sent him my autocord which had a number of problems. +1 for Karl Bryan for autocord overhaul and repair. I'm happy with the work he did on my Autocord. He does a great job, and reminds me that he also fixes Minolta rangefinders.

I have to get my Autocord out for a full CLA and repair to the focusing lever. Just in case someone runs across this thread at some point and wonders if he is still in the game. I had Karl do a CLA on my autocord about 4 Months ago. A CLA cost will vary by how much work needs to be done, so I'm hesitant to give a price. He is in Beaverton, OR, and if you email him at he can send you a list of his current prices for his services. Where is he located and how much is it for a CLA? Where did you get that strap?ĭoes anybody know if Karl Bryan still repairs Autocords? Seems like all the comments about him are 3 years old. My Autocord now looks practically brand new:

He is a consumate professional and surprisingly affordable. He turned it around in 2 days, and I had it back in my hands in under a week. Karl recently applied new leatherette, CLA'd and installed a new focus lever on my Autocord. I concur with all the positive comments here. I mailed it from Maine on a Monday and was at my door CLA'd the following Monday! He worked on a Ricohmatic 225 I used to own and I couldn't believe the turn around time. Karl's great, I will definitely be using him if my Autocord needs some work. His turn around time was less than one week and his prices and customer service are unbelievably good! Great guy! Just got two Autocords back from him this week. Thanks! I was worried I wouldn't be able to get a hold of him. Thanks! I was wondering why I have not heard back from him yet. I just wanted to let you all know, Karl's email has changed, it used to be his new email is 17 February 2011 PST In my case there is a problem with the film advance mechanism that's finally manifested itself completely after nearly a year of use. Once this has dried, you can cut a small piece of plastic tubing to fit over the U-end of the paperclip and glue this in place to make a more "finger friendly" focus experience.I'm sending in my Autocord for repair today to Karl Bryan, his prices are very affordable.

It helps to take off the focus range guide and place a piece of thin plastic like food wrap behind the lever when gluing (I used superglue) so you do not end up gluing the lever to the camera body. Just cut a small paperclip, bend the two ends to fit on each end of the broken stub of the focus lever and also bend the U-end up 45 degrees so the end does not hit the tripod stub when the film cover is open. I fixed my Minolta Autocord focus lever by bending and gluing part of a small paperclip (the U-shaped end) and a piece of plastic tubing to the broken stub.
